1909- NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Color People)
1910 - Bureau of Animal Industry - Created 8 labs to create testing methods to test meat.
1911 – Worker Compensation Laws
1927 – Bureau of Chemistry was reorganized and renamed Food, Drug and Inspection
Administration (FDIA)
1930 -The FDIA was renamed the FDA. (Food and Drug Administration). Today is one of the
strongest, most effective and respected federal agencies.
1938 - Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act was established to create food safety
standards for other authorities
1957 - Poultry Products Inspection
1967 - Wholesome Meat Act
1968 - Wholesome Poultry Act
1977 - Food Safety and Quality Source (FSQS) performs poultry and meat grading
1981 - FSQS was renamed to FSIS
1997 - Beef Industry Food Safety Council
